Scoring with Distinctions in China’s Grade Certificate Of Putonghua Level Test (中国国家普通話水平测试), Su Qin effortlessly obtained Certification with Singapore’s Chinese Entrance Proficiency Test. She began teaching in Intensive PSLE Chinese camps (小六会考集训营) for reputable primary schools. She was well-liked by many students and their parents through whom she was able to establish a strong referral network.

Academic Achievements In Chinese Studies

For more than 5 years Teck Chuan immersed himself in Chinese studies, first with Beijing Normal University (北京师范大学) on Chinese Language and Literature. Upon his graduation with Bachelor Degree in 2002, Teck Chuan further pursued Chinese Language and Literature from Nanjing University (南京大学) and obtained his Master degree in 2007. These professional achievements help to equip Teck Chuan with strong foundation in Chinese language, allowing him to be actively involved in the teaching of Chinese in Singapore.

To enhance his professional credentials on Chinese teaching, Teck Chuan further secured the teaching Diploma from Confucius Institute, Nanyang Technological University. It enables him to be a specialist in the teaching of Chinese Language.

Professional Teaching Experience

Since 2002 Teck Chuan has been engaged in teaching Chinese in schools and educational institutions, such as Anglo-Chinese School, Dunearn Secondary School, Jurong Primary School, Pei Hwa Presbyterian Primary School and Confucius Institute, Nanyang Technological University. Teck Chuan is familiar with the educational policies and examination requirements. He is able to identify and tackle the common problems faced by students in learning Chinese Language.

International Exposure And English Language Proficiency

Li Xun completed her professional degree in Finance from Zhongnan University of Economics and Law. She worked for more than 5 years with People’s Bank of China where she acquired international experiences and skills in writing and speaking in English. She was commended for excellent organizational and interpersonal skills and was known by her colleagues as a strong motivator and promoter of team play.

In 2007, Li Xun obtained outstanding results in International English Language Testing System (IELTS) conducted by Singapore British Council. She also achieved high scores in Workplace Literacy and Numeracy tests conducted by the Centre for Employability Skills in Singapore.

Academic Pursuits In Confucius Institute

It was Li Xun’s long lasting passion towards Chinese culture and literature that caused her to make a major switch into Chinese studies and education. She enrolled in Confucius Institute, Nanyang Technological University in 2008/2009 to pursue her further education in Teaching Chinese Language. During the same period she obtained Quick Chinese Core Syllabus Teacher’s Qualification Certificate from Quick Chinese Global Education and Training Centre. She was also awarded International Chinese Language Teacher Training Qualification Certificate from Shandong University.

Li Xun became one of the best students in Confucius Institute in academic performance. She attained excellent achievements in several subjects, including Modern Hanyu, Comparative Linguistics and Pandect on Chinese Literature.

Beyond her study, Li Xun is a strong team worker and motivator with fellow students. She took initiatives to organize group revision for examinations, help in research works and share her knowledge with fellow students. Her pursuit in Singapore Confucius Institute also earned her Basic Chinese Teaching Certification (快捷汉语 – 基础级核心教程教师资格证书课程) and Immersion Program Certification with China Shandong University International Education Institute (山东大学国际教育学院).

Siew Noi is also Certified Conversational Chinese Instructor with Singapore Eduation Curriculum & Development Board (新加坡教育部课程规划与发展 – 华语会话培训班). She is also a certified NTUC tutor.

Siew Noi is a registered Relief Teacher with Ministry of Education with many years of teaching experiences. The Adult Conversational Mandarin Course consists of interesting and innovative topics that encourage students to express their feelings, ideas, and opinions. Students will learn to discuss a variety of topics, such as

Course Features

Our teachers possess professional degree in the field of teaching adult conversational mandarin with several years of Mandarin language teaching experience. Our course incorporates interesting features to stimulate student interactions for learning. There are:

• Vocabulary-building exercises through songs, games, competitions etc to make the lessons exciting and interesting
• Role-play activities to enhance student’s memory power.

During the course, students are involved in pair and group work activities. The teachers will present stimulating themes and students are encouraged to share their ideas. Ever since moving to Singapore in 2006, Zhang Li has been tutoring Chinese language and Higher Chinese with students from K2 to Secondary 4. It has been a great learning journey as she adjusted her teaching style to suit students from Singapore schools. Her passion in teaching motivates her to constantly find new and creative ways to inspire students to love and learn the Chinese language.

As she builds rapport with students, Zhang Li adjusts her tutoring style constantly so as to allow her students to relate according to their respective Chinese standards. Over months students are able to interact with her progressively without barriers.

Upon entering university and subsequently into workforce, Thow Chiang was active among youth, contributing his part as volunteer tutor to help them in academic study. Over the years, he has developed unique assessment and teaching techniques for students with wide-ranging backgrounds. He is able to quickly profile the mathematical skills of a new student and give accurate advice on the appropriate entry point for greatest improvements.

Thow Chiang tutors students either one-to-one or in small group. He had tutored more than 600 students from more than 80 schools, ranging form upper primary to upper secondary, from Normal to Express stream. Thow Chiang is an engineer by profession. In his engineering careers, he found numerous opportunities to develop his teaching skills to further his passion on teaching. For several years he worked as Information and Communication Technology (ICT) trainers, travelling to developing countries to provide ICT certification training

Today he is still very much in touch with telecommunications and engineering development. He provides freelance consultancy on technology projects and spend much time developing web and blog sites. His technology projects are mostly networking related, ranging from System Network Architecture (SNA) to VoIP and mobile technologies.

Interests And Hobbies

Besides spending time with family and students, Thow Chiang enjoys playing badminton. He also takes part regularly as voluntourist to places where he can serve with a purpose. One recent trip was to China in May 2008 for the Sichuan May 12 Earthquake. During which he worked as translator with international medical team to provide relief to remote villages in Sichuan.

Ruth developed strong interest in mathematics since secondary school days and chemistry in JC days. She graduated from the National University Of Singapore with a Bachelor Of Science degree. She did Chemistry and Mathematics in the 3 years and also did Economics and Computer programming and Application in the first two years of her studies.

Ruth believes a lot in developing oneself in all aspects. On top of her Diploma in Education, she also has a graduate diploma in Business Administration. During her teaching years in ACS, she also obtained Fitness Instructor’s Certificate and Certificate of Proficiency in English.

Living Her Passion Fully

Ruth was active among youths in her younger day serving as a Sunday School Teacher in church. She considers herself not bright but a hardworking student which helped her excel academically. This is one strong encouragement she always gives to her students. Besides helping them in academic, Ruth constantly encourages the youths to identify their passion and devote whole heartedly to it.

Ruth is always known by many to be a person living her passion fully. In her younger day, her strong passion in music led her to form a band, playing guitar and performing with friends who share the same passion. They practiced regularly over weekends and performed at special occasions frequently. She learnt how to sing in parts and to focus intently on her individual part in group singing. Ruth always remembers the experiences in the band as they were her greatest moments. As the saying goes, “Dancers are great not because of technique; they are great because of their passion.”

Ruth is an outdoor person. In her younger days, she jogged regularly with a group of runners and participated in marathon. She enjoys doing sports like tennis, table tennis and jogging. She loves travelling too. She loves trekking, mountain-climbing, water-rafting and any activities that brings her close to nature.
