ShuYun obtained her Diploma in Education (中专师范文凭) from MinQing Institute Of Education in Fujian Province, Fuzhou (福建省福州市闽清县坂东师范培训学校). Upon graduation she was engaged as Primary School teacher by local district (闽清县白樟学区). For 8 years she taught in several Primary schools within the district, specializing in Chinese language teaching. By the third year ShuYun was already a recognized outstanding Chinese teacher and her class consistently tops the district in Semester Assessments.
Localizing Professional Skills
ShuYun’s passion for teaching continues even after her relocation to Singapore. With strong encouragements from friends, she started as assistant tutor to a friend giving small group Chinese tuition. As she applies her skills and experiences acquired in China, she soon settled in quickly and adapted her teaching style to suit local learners. Within short period ShuYun has become well-liked by students and parents.
Through referrals and enquiries her student base grows steadily and she is now an independent professional tutor. ShuYun takes every assignment seriously and benchmarks her performance with other tutor friends. She gathers feedbacks regularly from students, parents and peers to ensure that her students are making quality progress towards academic excellence.
A Humble Aim
ShuYun believes that a good teacher is a humble learner. She is constantly mindful that “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; Fools despise wisdom and instruction.” Even the beasts of the earth, the birds of the heavens and the fish of the sea declares new things to us each day. She takes every opportunity to learn about Singapore education and look out for training opportunities to improve her teaching skills. Her aim is to return to her earlier height of an outstanding Chinese teacher, in Singapore.
ChongQing graduated from Lanzhou University of China (中国兰州大学) with Diploma in Chinese language literature (中国文学系汉语言文学专科). Upon graduation she worked as news writer for local broadcasting company. Through professional and career skills training, ChongQing has become a skillful Chinese writer. She sprinkles her writings with concise and lively phrases to present fine and delicate details. Her outstanding style of writing has won her many journalism awards, of which the highest was Provincial silver award for TV news reporting (甘肃省电视新闻二等奖).
With her expertise in Chinese language and written communication, ChongQing took initiatives to contribute her part to people around her. She worked as volunteer tutor during her free time to help students on Chinese Literature and Classics. She was also freelance columnist with Chinese newspapers and magazines, contributing poems, essays and stories. Her longest story was more than 100 thousand words.
SuQin scored with Distinctions in China’s Grade Certificate Of Putonghua Level Test (中国国家普通話水平测试) and effortlessly obtained Certification with Singapore’s Chinese Entrance Proficiency Test.
Born in China LiaoNing Province (辽宁), Yang Shu started in accounting career upon her graduation from local college. She worked for various China state enterprises and banks For more than 10 years. In 2002, Yang Shu made her boldest decision to move from cold Northeastern China to hot sunny Singapore, with the preparation to switch over to teaching career in the city state known for world class education. Today, Yang Shu is a successful tutor, popular with students staying around Sengkang, Pasir Ris, Simei and Tampines. Many of her students are from Compassvale Primary, Meridian Primary and Siglap Secondary School.
In her constant pursuit to improve Chinese tutoring skills, Yang Shu completed her Diploma In Chinese Language Teaching (华语作为第二语言教学专科课程) in Singapore. The course is an extension program from Shanghai Fudan University which is one of China top University. International Cultural Exchange School of Fudan University (复旦大学国际文化交流学院) is well known for their high teaching quality and outstanding research achievements in teaching Chinese as a foreign language.
Being the last batch of graduate from old Nanyang University (南洋大学), Siew Noi is effectively bilingual. Driven by strong interest in teaching children in Sunday School, she seeks all opportunities to learn about creative teaching skills to minister to children. She completed Certificate courses on Practice And Principles Of Children’s Ministry and on Counseling Skills. Her strength in Chinese language soon made her popular among friends who are facing difficulties motivating their own children to study Chinese language. With her training on creative teaching to children, she was able to help many children overcome the fear of learning Chinese. Siew Noi is fully competent in tutoring Chinese and Higher Chinese at Primary and Secondary level.
Siew Noi teaches with the purpose of promoting students’ interest in Chinese, to the extent of accepting Chinese as a way of life. Not only is she interested to improve students’ academic performance, she is constantly leading students through multimedia resources and creative teaching methods to improve their level of Chinese knowledge, especially in the area of Chinese history, culture and values.
Irene specializes in working with students from non-Chinese-speaking homes. Most of her students are those who find Chinese language especially challenging. To overcome learning fears, Irene would plan creative activities with students during holidays. This would motivate the students to want to learn the language well.
After obtaining her Bachelor Of Chemical Engineering from Tianjin University (天津大学), Zhang Li worked in the Chemical industry for a short period. With her interest and passion in Chinese culture and literature, she soon decided to move aways from engineering career. In 1996 Zhang Li obtained Bachelor Of Chinese Language And Literature (汉语言文学本科) from Beijing JingWen International University (京文国际学院) and worked for many years as full time high school teacher in China. Ever since moving to Singapore in 2006, Zhang Li has been tutoring Chinese and Higher Chinese language with students from K2 to Secondary 4.
Zhang Li is now a successful professional Chinese and Higher Chinese tutor, helping many students to achieve outstanding academic results in PSLE and GCE O-level. Her students are mainly from schools around Toa Payoh and Bishan areas such as Pei Chun Primary, Catholic High and CHIJ. Her greatest joy is to see students attaining outstanding achievements in Chinese language.
Being a Chinese-educated Singaporean, Teck Chuan always maintains strong interest in Chinese studies. He reads widely and seeks every opportunity to study Chinese language, culture and history. In year 2000, after spending 20 years in Civil Service, Teck Chuan made the decisive move to pursue his passion in Chinese learning. Since then Teck Chuan, known also as Mr Lee, has been the role model to his students on Chinese learning. He continues with a humble attitude to acquire knowledge while teaching his favorite subject of Chinese Language.
Since 2002 Teck Chuan has been engaged in teaching Chinese in schools and educational institutions, such as Anglo-Chinese School, Dunearn Secondary School, Jurong Primary School, Pei Hwa Presbyterian Primary School and Confucius Institute, Nanyang Technological University. Teck Chuan is familiar with the educational policies and examination requirements. He is able to identify and tackle the common problems faced by students in learning Chinese Language.
